Black Cohosh As A Menopause Remedy

The menopause is the cessation of menstruation and a woman’s reproductive capacity, and usually will occur at around 50 years of age. However, it may occur prematurely, or artificially following the removal of the ovaries.  Most of the symptoms which occur during the menopause result directly from estrogen deficiency produced by the failing ovaries. It may be worth noting that in Japan, fewer women suffer the symptoms of the menopause because they eat more plant estrogens like tofu, soya and miso. Black Cohosh is also one of the popular menopause remedies used in the East.

Herbs for menopause, and the attempt to reduce the symptoms are becoming more popular for all women in differing societies. As with all types of medication, people are becoming more attune with the herbs for menopause and menopause remedies which are removed from over the pharmacist’s counter, or via prescription from a General Practitioner. There are many types of herbs for menopause symptoms and the reduction of, including Black Cohosh.  Black Cohosh can restore female hormonal balance and help to prevent night sweats and hot flushes.

Another menopause herbal remedy is that of Agnus castus which is used to relieve breast tenderness and many other problems of the menopause, as it works to normalize the levels of female hormones in the body. Often during the menopause there is a decreased libido, and another menopause herbal remedy is that of American ginseng.  Many in the field of herbal remedies believe that two other herbs for menopause are those of Agnus Castus and Black Cohosh. One other menopause herbal remedy is that of Motherwart, which can help to restore thickness and elasticity to the walls of the vagina, and Dong Quai can help with dryness which is often associated with the menopause.

When it comes to the use of herbs for menopause symptom reduction, there are many such herbs which wouldn’t ordinarily be associated with the menopause. For example, cinnamon is especially powerful during the menopause as it is particularly useful for low libido and edema. Coriander is cooling, and acts as a diuretic and diaphoretic. Some also believe that it acts as an aphrodisiac. Another menopause herbal remedy would be the use of aloe vera which cools and cleanses the liver when taken internally, and will help with any “hot” symptoms including flushes, sweats and swelling.

I have heard many things about this herb from my local health shop owner, but I always put it down to him wanting a sale. It is good to know that it may offer me some benefit during my menopause.
